Bondi Rumba
Bondi Rumba has become one of my favorite little spots in the neighborhood. It boasts three of my favorite things: Outdoor seating, live music, and spicy margs! It's nearly on my street, on the main strip of shops and cafes, so I pass it all the time. Before ever stepping foot inside, I liked the look of it and knew it would be an easy favorite. I just had this feeling that Bondi Rumba and I were destined to be good mates.
One afternoon after work, I looked around and realized I had several hours of sunshine left. It was warm and balmy out, and I didn't want to go home just yet. So I did a quick change, grabbed a towel and my book and headed back out with plans to post up at the beach. As I was cruising down the street, I was nearing Bondi Rumba and noticed two guys having beers in the window. It seemed like the perfect night for it and they looked to be enjoying it so much. I kept my eyes on them long enough for one of them to start beckoning me in. I started to protest, but my feet betrayed me and in I went! Immediately, I realized (it's a super small spot) that they were the only two guys in the bar. There was no one else sitting, or even standing behind the bar. One of the window beer guys got up and handed me a menu while asking if I'd like a happy hour wine. We quickly got to chatting, me and these barefoot, beer-drinking, window-sitters; And I learned that one is the owner, and the other his best mate! Both live on the block and many evenings, upon dusting off the bar and opening up the doors, the owner will call his mate for "window beers" and they'll sit in the window, showing all passersby how much fun they're having and entice people to come in! I had fallen prey to their ruse! For a few hours, we were the only people in the bar and I made some wonderful new friends. Not to mention, it never hurts to be in cahoots with the owner of a cute bar!
Conor was over the night before we flew to the Coast. Since we were leaving for the weekend, I had not done any market shopping and we were forced to go out. I immediately named Bondi Rumba and off we went!
A tiny little spot, would be almost unassuming if it weren't for all that character...
We ducked inside and settled into a spot near the infamous window.
The owner, Adrian, traveled through South America for a few years before opening up the bar. So the whole theme of the place, including the food, is a blend of Latin Culture.
We ordered chips + guac, empanadas, tacos, and a burrito!
I got an extra big pour due to my connections ;) The food is BY FAR the best Mexican/South American I've had here. The tacos are amazing and the empanada was perf! And I'm Colombian, I would know. Super yummy and fun din right before our holiday weekend! Great way to kick it off and I LOVE having a neighborhood bar!
